We build capacity for Sikh Canadians to advocate for dignity, justice, and self-determination while combating anti-Sikh hate and transnational repression. Grounded in community institutions and organized for action, we amplify Sikh voices from coast to coast to coast.
Sikh Federation (Canada) was born from conversations happening in community spaces across the country. As transnational repression and foreign interference targeting our community intensified, Sikhs recognized the need for strategic coordination that could match the scale of the challenges we faced.
Those early conversations grew into something powerful: Canada's largest Sikh advocacy network. Officially launched in 2024, we established ourselves as a registered non-partisan organization to ensure accountability in our advocacy work. We saw the opportunity to connect grassroots voices with policy makers, translate community concerns into political action, and build the infrastructure needed for sustained advocacy.
Today, we mobilize our collective strength to counter disinformation, champion our rights at every level of government, and build solidarity with communities who share our commitment to justice. We're not just advocating for Sikhs—we're working toward sarbat da bhala, the betterment of all.
Sarbat da bhala literally translates to "betterment of all", but this definition does not fully encompass our community's revolutionary spiritual and political framework. This principle requires Sikhs to work for the benefit of all creation, not just ourselves.
Sarbat da bhala fundamentally rejects the idea that any community can achieve true prosperity while others suffer, creating instead a vision where justice becomes indivisible and our spiritual practice inseparable from our commitment to dismantling systems of oppression.
For Sikhs, sarbat da bhala isn't just a prayer for the betterment of all. It's a blueprint for organizing that recognizes our struggles as interconnected and our liberation as collective.
As Sikhs, it is our duty and faith to protect the oppressed and challenge the oppressor. Freedom and sovereignty is the right of every single human being and our Guru has instructed every Sikh to ensure Sarbat da Bhala. That is what we struggle for.
As a community leader, gurdwara president, and advocate for Sikh rights, Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar dedicated his life to organizing our community and championing justice. He was assassinated on Canadian soil on June 18, 2023.
The Government of Canada credibly alleged that this targeted killing was an escalation of the Government of India's policy of transnational repression aimed at silencing Sikh voices.
