Since its launch, Sikh Federation (Canada) has grown into a prominent Sikh advocacy network in the country, uniting gurdwaras, community organizations, and grassroots leaders from coast to coast to coast. Its work has expanded across multiple fronts, and today we are honoured to present the vision that drives it all.
As the Sikh community continues to face escalating challenges from foreign interference, transnational repression, and rising anti-Sikh hate, it has become essential to articulate clearly how we organize our collective response. The organization’s new website and outlook reflect its commitment to accurately present the community’s stance and tackle issues efficiently and effectively.
This is the Movement of Sikhs in Canada.
The Federation’s objectives are stated in three pillars:
BUILD capacity and resources for Sikhs to champion justice, creating the infrastructure our community needs for effective advocacy through grassroots organizing and strategic policy research.
AMPLIFY our collective voice in spaces where decisions are made, bringing Sikh perspectives to parliamentary committees, government offices, and international forums where our concerns must be heard.
COMBAT anti-Sikh hate and transnational repression, documenting discrimination, countering disinformation campaigns, and providing direct support to community members facing interference and threats.
Legal Counsel for Sikh Federation (Canada), Prabjot Singh, says,
Our genesis was rooted in the escalation of India's transnational repression, when violence was visited upon Sikhs in Canada through repression and assassination of our community leaders.
But, the Sikh community also faces longstanding domestic challenges, as well. Which is why the Federation is focused on empowering our community to build capacity, amplify our advocacy and combat threats wherever we encounter them.
With this framework, the Federation continues confronting the challenges faced by the Sikh community through strategic, results-oriented advocacy that addresses both immediate threats and long-term community empowerment. The organization engages in spaces that have long been inaccessible, bringing the community's voice to political offices across the country, connecting with media outlets for accurate portrayal of our positions and building solidarity with other communities. The movement was organized at a critical time for Sikhs in Canada, and Sikh Federation continues to work for the community to ensure that our voice is heard.

In the backdrop of the Canadian government's ongoing efforts to normalize relations with India, today's announcement to designate the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity is an insufficient step to curb India's ongoing threats to the Sikh community.
Sikhs across Canada continue to reiterate calls for an independent inquiry into India’s transnational repression and violence as lawyers for the four men accused of murdering Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar appeared before the Supreme Court of British Columbia this morning.
